If there was ever a moment in my day to remind myself to practice absolute will power it is this one. "Tara, you can not get a dog today. Tara, you will not leave the house this instant and buy a little bow-wow. Tara, put your keys down. I meant it Tara...return to your computer... That's better."... Sigh, I am just a flutter over these adorable pup photos by, Sharon Montrose. Especially that little crazy haired brown pup... "Tara you may not have him... he can not come home with you" Those little hazel eyes are just too adorable. Heres to all you lucky folks who have a little bow-wow to cuddle...{xox}

You know that I would...
Longing for a destination like this one... look at those beautiful roof tops.... and better yet that breath taking scene behind it... you could run endlessly through those green fields, I can feel the dew on my ankles now. Are you longing for a get away too my lovely readers? Where would your dreams take you if all you had to do was blink your eyes and transport there...?
Photography?
At first I thought these super gorgeous illustrations by Cath Riley were photographs... but was stunned to learn that they were in-fact pencil drawings... impressively fashioned pencil drawings at that! I love the unique choice of subject and perspective. I am continually impressed at the talent in this world...

Sea Shell..house?
Yes, what you are seeing is real. This is a shell house. Sally lives here, by the sea shore, it's where she sells her sea shells... { kidding } But really this Nautilus House is not a fantasy, it is real and inhabited. Pretty Amazing huh? Its like a dream house for a wee one.

Its the final draft revision game...
Final Revision Process
Its kind of like that picture game where you have to find the differences between two photos.
Below are two illustrations { er, the same illustrations, with minor and major adjustments }
Final Draft #1 and Final Draft #2.
If you look closely you can see the changes and additions that were made after meeting with my fabulous client Ken Rochon.
Look at the bottom right, we switched the French and Russian characters completely... added a little cheesy love, some accessories and adjusted some skin tone.
It is kind of interesting to watch it all evolve..isn't it?

To all the chicks I know...

Thursday Morning Love Note
It’s in the way you say my name and how you hold my hand
Like a crab to a piece of fish, I’d find you through the sand.
A polar bear needs food to live, like I so need your kiss.
As a pig is when he rolls in mud, with you I am in bliss…
If I were a fish at sea, you would clearly be my wings,
Cuz’ surly a fish made of you and me would be a funny thing.
Like my favorite pair of jeans, you’d be my perfect fit.
I know If we were a baseball game, you’d be my grand slam hit.
I love you for the funny things you say when we’re alone.
Like a hive to it’s bee, when I’m with you I am at home.
I’m glad I finally found someone who loves me for who I am
For that I owe you everything, I’ll give you all I can.
There’s no denying it babe. We’re like two turnips from the same patch
While the other turnips are turning tricks, you’re my perfect match.
I swear to you I will be faithful, as a dog is to his bone.
If you stick with me babe, I swear you will never feel alone.

Pretty Package
Clever little package design here Designed by Kevin Angeloni. Part chemist part artist perhaps? Thoroughly organized no doubt,
the man I always wanted to be.
Coffee Mugs ... or toys... Both?
My next house warming gift... How adorable are these little guys? Just snap them in like legos. You don't even have to lay them in the dish rack to dry. I tell ya, the world just gets more and more creative as the days go by.

Penguin Love
Something about this minimalist approach has my heart going pitter patter. The use of negative space has me swooning all over the page and that fat little baby penguin love, I just cant get enough of.

Trusty, you cutey you.
Its a world of make believe here and its all coming together before my very eyes... Story, character, triumph over bad weather and hay bails ( you'll see )... This is my favorite part of the illustration process, spirits are highest now because with ever dash of color I add more life pops out of the page. And the closer I get to a finished copy to hold in my hands.
May I introduce, Page #1 drum roooolll

Chasing fire flies in my dreams tonight
In Lou of the rain outside my window this morning, I thought I would leave you all with something a bit more reminiscent of summer... I remember catching fire flies and thinking they would survive in a jar like my hamster did in her cage... wouldn't it have been lovely to have a jar full of "lightning bugs" as your night light!? Oh summer, come back to us.
Noma Bar = wow
I see brilliance here... these beautiful negative space illustrations by Noma Bar make me want to do more problem solving in my day to day drawings, how clever. Little red riding hood is my fav... so innocent sitting there at the tip of that evil wolf's snout, yikes.
something brilliant
Grids are limiting
To say a grid is limiting is to say that language is limiting, or typography is limiting.
It is up to us to use these media critically or passively.

Bottle design to save the world
I stumbled across this brilliant %100 eco-friendly bottle design by Andrew Seunghyun Kim. Surely something Coca Cola should consider. Take a moment to check out how much space it would save in a land full and how much less material it would use... who knew designers could save the world?
Go Ahead. Be a Square.

Spring Accessories
Trusty is alive!
And finally we are moving into the digital world! I have been inking the drawings for Trusty's book for weeks and last night everything was finalized enough that I could scan and start putting color into this poor little colorless world! Stay Tuned for updates, I am excited about how this one will turn out!

You are...really...I mean it
{ I hope you all had a beautiful Mother's Day }
Thanks Mom... for being my Beautiful Mom... You do a wonderful job....
And its clean... exhale
Feels good to finally be organized again. You know when things get busy and everything starts to go every where...? One thing gets out put of place and than another... and than things carry on like that for too long and you begin to dislike work because your studio space it is one big jumbled mess!? Well that was the story of my life last week... But Never More! Fear Not! Spring Cleaning has reared its beautiful head and I am feeling pretty good about the possibilities!
